How it works

How to get started with SkillSyncer

Seven steps from signing up to sending a resume built for the job you are actually applying to. Optimize your resume faster than ever and stay on top of your job search progresss.

Step 1. Create your free account

Signing up takes an email address and a password, or one click with Google. There is no card to enter and no trial clock. A free account can build a resume, scan it against a posting and export the finished file, so you can see whether the tool earns a place in your search before you spend anything.

What free covers

Free gives you one resume to build, format and export, with no limit on how much you edit it. Scans against a job description run at one a week, and the match report shows the first ten findings. Premium lifts the resume count and the scan limit, and shows every finding; nothing you have already built is locked away behind it.

Step 2. Add your resume

You can start either way round. Upload the resume you have been sending as a PDF or DOCX and we parse it into editable sections, keeping your wording. Or start from a blank template and write it here, section by section.

Uploading is usually the faster route, because the point of the next step is to compare what you already have against a real posting. If the parse gets something wrong, every field stays editable, and the rendered page updates as you type.

  • Import an existing PDF or DOCX and keep your content
  • Build from one of six templates that stay readable to an ATS
  • Keep several versions, one per kind of role you are chasing

Step 3. Paste the job description

Find a posting you actually want and paste its description in. That posting, not a generic industry list, is what your resume gets measured against, which is the whole reason the results are worth acting on.

Before SkillSyncer, you would spend hours manually highlighting keywords from a job description and cross-checking your resume to ensure they were included. Now, with SkillSyncer's Auto-Optimize feature, you can tailor your resume in seconds. Our AI-powered tool instantly analyzes job descriptions, ensuring your resume is optimized with the right keywords to help you stand out to employers and get noticed faster.

Step 4. Read your match report

Within seconds, you can auto-tailor your resume and receive other interview-winning feedback. Your match report will include a Job Match Score, Keyword Analysis, and Common Resume Checks to help you refine your resume.

Job match score

A number out of 100 for this posting. We suggest aiming for 80 or above before you apply. The score moves as you edit, so you can see whether a change actually helped rather than guessing.

Keyword analysis

Every skill and term the posting asks for, marked as found or missing, with how often the employer mentions it. Frequency matters: a term repeated four times is what the role is really about. You can exclude any keyword that does not apply to you, and the score recalculates without it.

Common resume checks

The structural things a recruiter or a parser will trip over: missing contact details, weak or passive verbs, bullets with no numbers in them, absent sections, and unexplained gaps between roles. Each finding points at the exact line it came from.

Step 5. Fix what the report found, with AI if you want it

This step is yours to do by hand or to hand over. Both routes end in the same place, and neither one changes anything you have not seen.

By hand

Click any bullet, title or date on the rendered resume and the editor opens on that exact field. Work the missing keywords into the experience where they are actually true, and watch the score move.

With AI, which is optional

Ask for a rewrite and the AI writes a version of your bullet built around the keywords this posting wants, and shows it beside your original with the additions and deletions marked. Take it, skip it, or take it and keep editing.

  • Auto Optimize works through a whole resume in one pass, still one approval at a time
  • Bullet point generator turns keywords you are missing into achievement bullets to start from
  • Per-bullet rewrites for when only one line needs work

Nothing is replaced silently, and your original wording is never thrown away, so the resume still sounds like you wrote it. If you would rather not use the AI at all, every finding in the report can be fixed by hand.

Step 6. Export to PDF or DOCX

When the resume reads the way you want it, export it. The export panel renders the document first, so what you approve on screen is exactly what lands in the file, rather than a surprise when you open it.

Which format to send

  • PDF for most applications. Formatting cannot shift on someone else's machine, and every modern applicant tracking system reads it.
  • DOCX when a posting or a recruiter asks for Word, which some agencies and public sector portals still do.

Before it exports you can set margins, paper size and page count, so a resume spilling a few lines onto a second page can be pulled back to one. Letter and A4 are both there for applications abroad.

Step 7. Track your applications

With your private career board, you can move jobs into specific categories as you progress through the application process.

Each job keeps the scan it came from, so months later you can still see which version of your resume you sent and what it scored. Rename the columns to match how you actually work, and give each one an icon so the board reads at a glance.

Reviewing what the AI suggests

The AI does not rewrite your resume behind your back. Every suggestion is presented on its own, next to the line it would replace, with the additions and deletions marked so you can see exactly what changed and why.

You decide one at a time:

  • Accept and the line is replaced, and the match score updates
  • Skip and your original stays exactly as you wrote it
  • Accept and edit when the suggestion is close but the wording is not yours

This matters more than it sounds. A resume the AI wrote unsupervised will claim things you cannot speak to in an interview. Reviewing each suggestion keeps the keywords the posting wants while keeping every claim true to what you actually did.

Nothing is lost

Your original wording is kept whether you accept a suggestion or not, so you can undo a change later. If you would rather not use the AI at all, every finding in the match report can be fixed by hand and the score responds the same way.
