Why this exists

SkillSyncer was founded in 2018 by a U.S. Army veteran who worked out, the hard way, that the thing standing between a good candidate and an interview was usually the resume rather than the experience behind it. The military program has been part of the product since then. It has just never had a page, which is why most of the people it is for have never heard of it.

The part that makes a transition resume hard

The problem is not that your experience does not translate. It is that the words do not. A civilian applicant tracking system searches for the phrasing used in the job posting, and a resume written in MOS codes, unit names and rank structures does not contain that phrasing, however well it matches the actual work.

That is the specific thing this tool is for. Paste the posting you are applying to and it shows the skills and keywords the employer is searching for, which of them your resume already contains, and which are missing. You decide what to add, in your own words. Nothing is written on your behalf, which matters when a hiring manager asks you about it in the interview.

How to claim it

If you have a .mil address, create an account with it and the year is applied at sign up. Nothing else to do.

If you do not, which is most veterans and most spouses, email military@skillsyncer.com and we will set it up by hand. To keep it to one message rather than a back and forth, send it from the address you want the year applied to and tell us your branch and whether you are a veteran, serving, or a spouse.

Already have an account? Email from that address and we will apply it to the account you have, so the scans and resumes already on it stay where they are.

Students get the same year with a .edu address, applied at sign up, on the same terms.

For transition offices, VSOs and spouse employment programs

If you advise people through transition or between duty stations, you are welcome to take on the same offer. Email military@skillsyncer.com and we can get you set up with a free account and a demo if you would like.

Questions about the military program

Who qualifies?

Active duty service members, veterans, National Guard and Reserve, and military spouses. If you hold a .mil address the year is applied when you sign up with it. If you do not, email military@skillsyncer.com and we will set it up manually, which is the normal route for veterans and spouses.

I already have a free account. Can I still claim it?

Yes. Email military@skillsyncer.com from the address on the account and we will apply it. You do not need to create a second account or lose the scans and resumes already on the one you have.

What do I actually get?

Everything on the paid plan. Unlimited job match scans instead of two a week, unlimited resumes, the exact words to change rather than just the section they sit in, live scoring as you edit, Word export, and the AI tools.

Do I have to use my credit card?

No. There is no card and no trial that converts into a charge.

Is this only for Veterans in transition?

No. Plenty of people use it years after separating, or while still serving and planning ahead. Spouses moving between duty stations tend to use it hardest, because a PCS means starting the search again in a new market.

I work with a transition office, VSO or spouse employment program. Can we share this?
